Three Tips for Finding Your Decorating Style

As home redecorators, when working with clients we always start with a consultation. It’s the best time to discover what a client not only needs in their home but what they want as well.

This is when you (as a homeowner) will be asked questions like “What would you say your decorating style is?”

But this can oftentimes be a very loaded question. There are tons of styles out there – contemporary, traditional, French countryside, rustic, industrial, mid-century modern – you get the picture. It’s really hard to limit yourself to just one style, so that’s where your redecorator (us!) comes in.

At Agricola Redesign we want to help clients incorporate as many styles as are necessary. We have clients who are really contemporary in style but have also inherited pieces from family that they love. However, they’re afraid they can’t have both styles in their home without them clashing or feeling as though they don’t quite “fit.”

Thankfully, working with the design team at Agricola Redesign will help you understand how mixing multiple styles can work.

Find an inspiration piece. This can be a beautiful lamp, rug, or art piece. Once you have this piece you can start to build around it.

Use your inspiration piece to start off your color palette for your walls. Whether the piece is a solid color or has many, use one or even a complimentary color to inspire what colors you paint on the walls.

Watch for scale and balance. This is important because you don’t want to have a heavy, modern marble table next to a delicate antique set.
