Biography

Hi… I’m Allie Milus, founder of BLOOM That ROOM. I love creating beautiful, functional rooms and rethinking how a space is used. And it all began with my Barbie doll. I find it fascinating as I look back at my six, seven and eight-year old self.. that I was unknowingly honing my ‘home staging’ skills, but knowing that THAT was my playtime activity of choice. I was naturally drawn to enhancing Barbie’s ‘real estate’, with repurposed items only.. and, of course, with no budget. I HAD to be resourceful back then as my .50 cents/week allowance couldn’t afford any new furnishings or accessories.

And resourceful I was. Out to the backyard I went searching for just the right sticks or twigs, then inside to raid my Mother’s fabric scraps, and feeling very pleased with my carefully chosen building supplies. As far as I was concerned, I had all the materials I needed for some ‘think-outside-the-box design plans’ that would give Barbie a variety of creative living environments. Whether it was simply enhancing Barbie’s ‘Dream House’ with fabric, or using my curated inventory of sticks, twigs, and fabric scraps to construct a doll-sized treehouse within the row of hedges, (her secret hideaway, I had declared, so she could ditch Ken and meet up with GI Joe), along with a handmade tent and hammock to furnish her outdoor getaway, I made sure Barbie had some unique ‘digs’.  She was livin’ the life those few short years.

Many years later, you’ll still find me in my yard picking up sticks to use for a project and I have my own collection of fabric scraps now. But it’s the box with my Mother’s memorabilia that holds the fabric of my youth, from an imagination long ago. I like to check on it from time to time, to see if the fabric will inspire me yet again.. weave another round of imagination, spark a new idea from something old, maybe help me look at a design in a different way.. but also to remind me of where and how it all began. And it’s funny how it’s all come full circle.

Under the wonderful tutelage of Sandra Racz and JoAnne Lenart-Weary of The Decorating and Staging Academy, I earned my certifications in Home

Staging, One Day Decorating, Interior Redesign, Seasonal Decorating, and the Confident Color System for Color Consulting.

There’s nothing superficial about creating beautiful, meaningful spaces. It matters. It makes you feel good.  It enhances your life.  Whether you are Staging to Sell or Stayging to Stay.. give me a call or send me an email. I’d love to help you “BLOOM That ROOM”.
