Describe That Room in Five Words

When working with you, my client, it is very hard for you to articulate what you want sometimes. You certainly know what you don’t want, but often only after I show it to you.

So when we meet, I may ask you to describe the perfect room in five or six words. I may say, “Tell me what your perfect room would look like and how it would feel.” I’ll even give you a sheet to help with words already listed to get your mind going!

I want you to use words like cozy, comfortable, warm, and welcoming. You may also choose to go with words like opulent, eclectic, stunning, or dramatic. When you do this, it helps me, or any designer you’re working with, paint a picture in my mind of what you want.

Each word or set of words start to unfold your desire for the room.

For me, I now know what fabrics you would like, what texture would be best, and the patterns I’ll use. We call these words the power words because with just five little words I’m able to see you much better than what I may be looking at or what you’re saying!
