As someone who loves the holidays (like, really LOVES them), it can be hard to fight off the urge to decorate your home too early. In some cases, people have opted to decorate for Christmas even before Thanksgiving rolls around – pulling out the tree, lights, and decorations just after Halloween.

Some say that they like to give each holiday their own time to be celebrated – opting for the traditional Day After Thanksgiving decoration day, in which they bring out the tree and other Christmas decorations. Others, however, like to do it when they like to do it – no matter if it’s Halloween, a week before Thanksgiving, or getting a head start by celebrating Christmas in July.

For those who want to opt for bringing out the Christmas decor before Thanksgiving, here are some ideas on bringing together both holidays without overwhelming our Day of Thanks with too much Christmas stuff:

1. Bring out the pinecones: It seems that as soon as the weather starts to turn cooler, pine cones are the perfect decor idea. While many people think of Christmas and snow when they see pinecones, they’re brown enough to be incorporated as Thanksgiving decor as well. You can put them in a decorative bowl or even create a garland out of them!

2. Make the holidays their own “season”: Although it’s important to take the time to celebrate each season, you don’t have to limit it to four. Give the holidays their own season that just happen to encapsulate Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. Set up the Christmas tree in the same week you prepare your Thanksgiving turkey, and leave your mistletoe up through your New Years celebration. Then, when it’s all over, you can take the time to celebrate winter before spring pokes its head through.

3. Set it up when you’re ready: In all honesty, it doesn’t really matter when you set up your Christmas and other holiday decor. It’s your home and you can decide when and for how long you want to celebrate the holiday season. Some prefer to eat their thanksgiving meal around the Christmas tree to remember just how much they have to be thankful for. Others like to keep the annual tradition of putting up the tree as a family on the day after Thanksgiving. Whatever you prefer, remember that there is no right or wrong time to begin decorating for the holidays.
