April Is National Decorating Month: The-DSA Wants To Celebrate With You In Style

November 18, 20253 min read

Did you know that April is National Decorating Month? Yep—it’s a real thing, and it’s one of The-DSA’s favorite times of the year to encourage people to refresh, reimagine, and reconnect with their space. It is the perfect month to bring Spring, the season of renewal, into your home. This isn’t about a full-blown renovation or finding a big budget to make your home feel fresh. With a little creativity and intention, you can create beautiful changes that feelso good—and yes, even fun!

So, whether your style is cozy and neutral or bold and colorful, let’s celebrate your personal style this month with some easy, feel-good decorating ideas.

Why April is thePerfect Time to Decorate-this is Spring cleaning with style.

April brings longer days, brighter light, and that itch to shake off the winter blahs. It’s the ideal moment to:

  • Reclaim your space after months of hibernating indoors

  • Clear out the clutter and start with a fresh mindset

  • Add color, life, and joy to the rooms you use every day

  • Refresh not only the aesthetics but also the air-throw your windows open and let the air cleanse

Small Changes can make big impacts. Here are a few ideas you can try this weekend:

  • Switch out your throw pillows for a pop of color or fresh pattern

  • Rearrange your furniture—even moving a chair to a new corner can make a room feel different

  • Add real (or faux) greenery to breathe life into your space

  • Style a shelf or coffee table using items you already have around the house…move things from room to room. That is one of our favorite tricks when we work with a One Day Decorating client.

  • Paint a small wall or accent piece in a spring like color-think of something you might recycle the color with the seasons.

Celebrate YOUR Style, National Decorating Month is also a great reminder that your home should reflect you. Your lifestyle. Your story. Your comfort. If you’re not sure what your personal decorating style is, think about:

  • What colors make you feel calm or energized and more importantly, how do you want to feel in each room. Every space in your home will have a different vibe, whether the need is to relax, focus or work. Think about how your color choices can impact your use of each space.

  • What words describe your dream room? (Cozy? Airy? Inviting? Sophisticated?) At The-DSA, we call them your Power Words and are the drivers for how you want your room to feel.

  • What items in your home make you smile every time you walk by? Each of us at The-DSA has a special corner or décor item that is one of our favorites. (mine is a 25-year-old Cheetah print wing chair)

This month, give yourself permission to lean into whatyoulove—not what the trends say you “should” love.

Just for Fun: A Quick Decorating Challenge-celebrate National Decorating Month with The-DSA. Here’s your mission (should you choose to accept it):

  1. Pick one small space in your home: a corner, an entryway, a coffee table, or a shelf.

  2. Refresh it with what you already have—or treat yourself to one new item if it brings you joy.

  3. Take a quick before-and-after photo.

  4. Share it on Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #NationalDecoratingMonth and tag The-DSA with @decoratingandstaging academy, so we can cheer you on!

Final Thoughts-Your home doesn’t have to be perfect. It doesn’t have to look like a magazine. It just must feel like you. Love it no matter where you are in the decorating process.

April is the perfect time to make a few small changes that help your space reflect your style, your story, and your sense of home. So, let’s celebrate National Decorating Month together—and make your home a little happier, one small step at a time.
